Embracing the Swamp Day: Why It's Okay to Just Sit in Your Emotions

You ever wake up and just feel like the universe has it out for you? Like, you just hit snooze on every good vibe that could possibly come your way. Yeah, I know the feeling. I call it “Swamp Day”—the day when your emotions go rogue and try to drag you down into the murky depths of despair.

It starts simple enough. You wake up on the wrong side of the bed (or the wrong side of life). You stub your toe, spill your coffee, and suddenly, it feels like the world is out to get you. Every negative thought comes rushing in like a symphony of chaos. Your energy is all over the place, and you’re metaphorically vomiting all your frustrations onto everything and everyone around you. (Sorry, not sorry.)

And let's be honest, the victim behavior is real. We’ve all been there—dramatic, emotional, and fully ready to throw in the towel. You want to shake it off, keep it moving, push through… but no matter what, it doesn’t seem to let up. You go for a walk, take a shower, even hit the sauna, and yet, your emotions cling to you like that one piece of spinach you didn’t catch in your teeth.

Sound familiar?

Here's the thing. You can push through it all you want, but that swamp is still there, lurking beneath the surface, ready to suck you in. So, what’s a person to do? Well, instead of fighting it or pretending it’s not happening, I decided to surrender to it.

Why? Because, as much as I hate to admit it, that swamp is trying to tell me something. It’s not just a bunch of random, chaotic feelings. It’s an invitation to dig deeper, to explore what’s lurking under the surface, to sit with my emotions instead of burying them under a heap of “positivity” and “productivity.”

Now, I know what society and self-help gurus will tell you: “Push through! Think positive!” And sure, that’s fine and dandy... but have you ever noticed that when you shove emotions down, they tend to rear their ugly heads at the most inconvenient times? Trust me, it’s better to deal with them while you can, instead of letting them fester into something worse later on.

The truth is, we all have these swamp days. Whether you're a man, a woman, or anything in between, emotions are part of being human. And guess what? It's totally okay to sit in them. It's okay to not be "on" all the time. You don't need to be a productivity machine 24/7.

So, here’s what I learned from this swamp day experience:

  1. Patience is Key: The fruits of your labor don’t appear overnight. You can’t force progress—it takes time.
  2. Self-Care Isn’t Selfish: Put your own oxygen mask on before helping others. You are the vessel, and if you’re not functioning well, how can you help anyone else?
  3. It’s Okay to Sit with Your Emotions: Seriously. Stop judging yourself for having a bad day. Don’t just shove those feelings aside. Understand them. Honor them. The more you sit with them, the more they’ll teach you.
  4. Focus on What’s Working: We often get so stuck on what’s not working, we forget to acknowledge the things that are. Shift your energy to what’s going right.

Now, if you’ve ever found yourself trapped in the swamp (and let’s be real, we all have), I’ve got something that might help you wade through it: Mindless Behaviors: Breaking Through Unseen Barriers. If you’re tired of feeling stuck in your own emotional whirlpool, this book is for you. It’s all about understanding the patterns we fall into, and how to break free from them—so you can rise above your swamp days and live a life of intentionality, empowerment, and true transformation.

Don’t let another swamp day drown you. Get your copy of Mindless Behaviors today, and start taking control of the energy you’re carrying. After all, your life is too short to let the swamp take over.

Let’s get you out of the muck. Order now.
